Message from the Dean

Humanities are academic disciplines that study aspects of human society, culture and values. The College of Humanities, founded in 1951 as Liberal Arts College, offers a unique and diverse curriculum to make our dreams come true – dreams that realize "knowledge-based society" and “globalization” upon humanities. It also aims at cultivating humanities educators equipped with language skills, thinking skills, and historical consciousness, as well as nurturing experts in each academic field.

The College of Humanities is composed of 11 departments, and distinguished faculty members, including foreign professors, conduct high-level research and offer enthusiastic lectures to students. In addition to the existing buildings – College of Humanities and Graduate School buildings, we will soon open a new building, “Center for Humanities”, in the core of the campus. We expect the new building to promote various kinds of educations for humanities and arts by providing medium and large classrooms, seminar rooms and performance areas.

Recently, the College of Humanities has been chosen for University Specialization Project and the Brain Korea 21 Plus Projects, which offer a wide range of opportunities for both undergraduate students and graduate students to participate in various education and employment programs. In 2016, in particular, the College of Humanities was selected for College of Humanities’ Research and Education (CORE) Project and has been supported by the total of 8.4 billion won for three years. The College of Humanities at KNU tries its best to fulfill social responsibilities as one of the distinguished National Universities to promote studies of humanities.
